Frequently Asked Questions

“Communicating consistently and clearly with our stakeholders to share useful and timely information.”

Below, you’ll find answers to some of our most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). If you have questions about the Productivity & Innovation Centre (PIC) or its services, please review our FAQ to see if the answer has already been posted. Otherwise, please contact us.

Why did you choose productivity and innovation as the focuses for this Centre of Excellence?

Community consultations identified operational efficiency as a key concern of northeastern Ontario businesses. Organizations sometimes struggle as a result of insufficient technology and equipment, ineffective processes and other issues. In many cases, identifying these issues is where many organizations get stuck, limiting potential growth. PIC was established to help organizations overcome the barriers to improving their productivity and innovation.

Does PIC only offer funding for assessments and productivity improvements, or are there other services available?

Even if your organization is not eligible for funding, you could still benefit from services. We provide valuable information and can facilitate your access to other funding sources. We can also connect you with one of our consulting partners to complete an assessment, though the cost of that assessment would fall to your organization. We can also connect you with some of our other partners who maintain a variety of support programs for organizations in northeastern Ontario.

How do I know if I’m eligible for funding?

Currently, we offer funding to organizations whose primary revenue comes from these nine sectors: Agriculture, Clean Technologies, Construction, Digital Media & IT, Energy, Environment, Forestry, Mining and Manufacturing (see Question #6 below for more specific information on funding for the Manufacturing sector). If you do not fall into one of these sectors, you likely are not eligible for funding, but that doesn’t mean you are ineligible to take advantage of our services. The best way to find out if you are eligible is to fill out this form. We encourage you to apply even if you think you may not be eligible.

Why are only certain sectors eligible for funding?

PIC is a pilot project currently in Stage 2 of its implementation. The financial support we provide is based on funding we receive from the federal/provincial government and other partners. For now, we must focus on funding a limited number of sectors.

What percentage of the assessment and improvements does PIC cover?

We cover up to 80% of the cost of your organizational assessment, and up to 80% of improvements completed as a result of the assessment.
