There are many funding programs aimed at supporting northeastern Ontario organizations of all sizes and at all stages of business development. Below is an exhaustive list of those currently available (updated Jan. 2016):

FedNor

  • Youth Internship

    Not-for-profit organizations: FedNor will contribute up to 90 percent ($27,500) for the eligible costs of salary and employee benefit expenses for a period of 12 months in a full-time position.
  • Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDCs)

  • Targeted Manufacturing Initiative for Northern Ontario – Productivity Improvements

    Through its Northern Ontario Development Program, FedNor can help existing Northern Ontario manufacturers upgrade and improve capital equipment used in manufacturing processes, including information and communications technology, to improve their competitiveness and productivity.

Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC)

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is a crown corporation and development agency of the Ontario government that invests in northern businesses and municipalities through conditional contributions, forgivable performance loans, incentive term loans and loan guarantees.

Culture Development Fund

The Culture Development Fund seeks to strengthen cultural organizations and their leadership, helping them to increase their knowledge and skills. This will help organizations become better at what they do and more successful in achieving their mandates. Increased performance through new and innovative projects will build the capacity of the sector, leading to a stronger and more stable culture sector.

Ontario Trillium Foundation

  • Community Program is for activities that take place in one catchment area and have a local impact in one or more communities within that catchment area. Community grants account for 80% of OTF funding. This can include up to $75,000 per year for operating or project expenses and up to $150,000 over one or more years for capital initiatives such as building renovations and/or equipment purchases.
  • Province-Wide Program is for activities that have a province-wide impact. At a minimum, the work must take place in three catchment areas or two catchment areas in the North. Province-Wide grants account for 20% of OTF‘s funding.
  • Community Capital Fund (CCF)
    The new Community Capital Fund (CCF) will support infrastructure projects that help Ontario’s not-for-profit organizations deliver important public services to diverse cultural communities.

Collective Impact Grant

Collective Impact grants require the co-creation or co-design of solutions, the development of evaluation strategies and shared measurement, in possible addition to professional facilitation, convening and research.
